Yes our new espresso from the week (thanks to Caffenation) is a Brazil Santos Peaberry. The peaberry is also known as a Caracoli. This is a coffee cherry in which only one half of the bean is developed. This gives a rounded or oval (pea-shaped) and smaller bean. Normal coffee beans are less commonly called by contrast flat berry. Typically around 5% of all coffee beans harvested are of this form.
There are some theories that this beans will have a superior taste due to there form characteristic’s that play a role during roasting. However there is not yet any proof for it, if you want to know more this Sweet Maria’s article gives some insights.
